While i appreciate the desire to change improve things I don't think re juggling the same active 20-40 active players will give us a net-gain of more players or babo games.
Babo's since day one rarely had more than 4 really good teams and another 4 will likely last 4-8 weeks teams. Maybe at the height of the previous ladder we had almost 10 active.
The core problem is just that we simply don't have many active players playing the game or new players joining the game either. No amount of moving around of players will fix this. We also have the problem of every video game. The vets are simply way way ahead of any new player so they don't really want to get destroyed for months to get better.
Who wants to invest that kind of time? I quit babo for over a year, i came back and honestly the same players that were good, were the exactly same players that i came back to.
I one hundred percent fully agree. Babo is toast. If we wanted an improved community the game must be re-designed from the ground up. Not just the game, but the website, the actual NAME of the game, and an actual advertisement plan.
Personally, one day. I'd like to see babo on an e-sports level. Something people can actually play
competitively. Other games like CS are like this, and it works. The reason being is that any vet who is serious enough is in these leagues making money off of it, they're in their own servers doing their own thing. The rest of the players are "casual" and on pub servers. It's kind of the same in babo now but it's hard to see because the community is way to small, so often you'll see vets in pubs completely destroying people. A lot of hardcore CS players don't even play in pubs at all.
It would be a shit-ton of work but BV2 is a very good concept game and the gameplay doesn't have to be changed at all.
Problems with BV2:
1. Lamb of God's music is the only song in the game. It makes it seem like the game is like a demo.
2. The menu's are horrible. The whole log-in system etc, pointless if it isn't required. This confuses people because it's so different than any other game. And it just feels so half-assed. No one likes half-assed things, free or not. Maybe if there was a huge "BETA" beside the title of the game then people would understand.
3. It isn't supported by the devs.
4. The name is retarded. Babo Violent 2? Where's BV1, you can't get it. This confuses people. What the hell is a babo anyways? Stupid.
5. The game doesn't have any atmosphere at all, this makes it very hard to like especially when you're getting owned by vets.
6. Absolutely everything to do with the game is half-assed. And no pro-client will fix this.
So you may be asking why I even started playing babo in the first place. Well it was a game that didn't require any installation on the computers at school and we had fun that way just f'ing around. Not only that, the game was created by a Canadian living in the same city as me, so I supported it that way. I started to love the game but it was hard for me at first because everything about it was ugly. Although, the first menu wasn't as bad as it is now that's for sure.
